Detailed design plans for the £43 million transformation of Urmston town centre have been submitted this week.
Ask Developments was selected by Trafford Council to create a scheme which will spearhead the regeneration of Urmston, generate a thriving retail centre and create new jobs in the community,
This will provide 140,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space – including a 50,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket, as well as a new library and 144 apartments.
Outline planning permission has already been granted for the scheme and now detailed designs, including the internal layout of the supermarket, as well as the library, outdoor furniture and street lighting, have been submitted to Trafford Council’s Planning Committee, with a decision expected in early Spring.
Work has now started on Phase 1 of the project, with the demolition of the former Council Offices and some of the adjacent vacant units.
Julie Moorhouse, Development Executive at Ask Developments said: “This planning application is the next major step in this exciting project. Ask Developments firmly believe that the new shopping centre will deliver exactly what the Urmston community needs, and provide the town with a 21st Century environment that reflects it’s character.
“The public exhibition will give people the opportunity to come down and see the plans in more detail and will give them a better idea of how the scheme will look upon completion.”
The first phase which includes the supermarket, car park and library should be completed by early 2009.
