Civilian Military Fitness (CMF) has signed an agreement with Ask Developments to hold their military orientated fitness classes at First Street.
The classes, which will be open to everybody, are scheduled to start in May and will take place around First Street’s soon-to-be completed public realm.
CMF will be the first fitness company to offer this style of training in the city centre. Initially they will be operating four classes mid week and one class over the weekend. The mid week class times have yet to be finalised but will be scheduled to run at times that will allow people to exercise before and after work and during some lunch times. CMF classes deliver unbeatable circuit training, cross training and total conditioning workouts. The classes are suitable for all levels of ability and their team of experienced military physical training instructors will coach, motivate and encourage each member to achieve their goal.
Over 1,400 Manchester City Council staff will begin a phased move into First Street from mid-April, with the move due to be completed by the beginning of June. The first phase of public realm will also complete at the same time to coincide with the occupation of the building and CMF classes will available to both tenants and the general public shortly after.
Located on the southern edge of the city, First Street spans across 20 acres and includes the first major new pedestrianised thoroughfare in the city for many decades. First Street Manchester will be an 18m wide, 300m long boulevard connecting the community of Hulme through the Mancunian Way to the Hacienda site on Whitworth Street West.
John Hughes, Director at Ask, said; “We’re delighted to have secured CMF. This modern fitness phenomenon has swept the country and so it is a real coup to have attracted them to First Street to help establish the area as a recognisable part of the city and to showcase the site as a fantastic location to hold events. By signing up CMF, we are making the most of the open space available and further enhancing the locational benefits of First Street.
David Burke, Managing Director of CMF, said; “When Ask Developments approached us to operate our military fitness classes we agreed straight away as we feel First Street will be a fantastic location and an ideal opportunity to use outdoor urban space. There is strong evidence that exercise and fresh air increases both physical and mental well being. Our classes combine the two and we are excited to be offering the people who work and live in the city a no-nonsense and proven way to get fit.
