After a successful three years of trading, Leopold Square has secured The Bar and Grill as another major new tenant.

The restaurant is expected to open in autumn this year with a VIP launch and firework display in the Square.

The venue will occupy a 4,000 sq ft unit, serving up a range of classic Great British dishes to tempt all palates..

Renowned West Yorkshire leisure operator Richard Downey is the man behind the new restaurant and bar, with this new addition certain to boost the Square’s already unrivalled offer, further establishing it as the premier leisure destination in Sheffield city centre.

The redevelopment of the collection of Grade II listed buildings began in 2004 and the scheme, which was delivered by Manchester-based Ask Developments, was launched in 2007.

The Bar and Grill, which will undergo a £1m fit-out, will operate over two floors,  featuring  two entrances and an alfresco seating area in the Square.

The menu will feature some Great British classics including a twist on the old favourite bangers and mash and a range of delicious seafood dishes.  Everything will be fresh and locally sourced where possible.

Richard has been in the leisure and hospitality industry all his life working alongside his father, branching out on his own over 15 years ago.

“I’m delighted to be opening at Leopold Square, which gives me a fantastic interior space to design within the stunning architecture of the Square.  In addition to the food menu on offer, there will be an island bar which will serve up a range of 70 cocktails, semi-circle leather booths for comfort seating and a modern tin ceiling shipped in from the States,” said Richard.

“We’ll be featuring pianists every evening on our baby grand piano and Christian Adams of The Living Room, Leeds, will be styling our extensive cocktail menu.  The venue will have a music policy aimed at a more discerning and mature clientele,” he added.

Leon Guyett, Senior Development Executive at Ask Developments, said:  “We are delighted to welcome The Bar and Grill to Leopold Square, which further establishes the scheme as the destination of choice for people in Sheffield who desire a varied and high-quality drinking and dining experience. Richard, like our other great operators, shares our passion for creating a something special at Leopold Square.”

The Bar and Grill will be open daily from 11.00am till midnight, with extended opening hours until 2.00am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
