The last reminders of the old Urmston shopping centre have now gone following the demolition of the Boots building and clearance of the site for phase two of Eden Square is now underway.
And while trading conditions remain difficult for retailers nationally discussions on the development of phase two in Urmston are progressing well and following positive on-going negotiations with major retailers, Ask Developments will be submitting a revised Planning Application for phase two in the coming weeks.
Executive Councillor Mike Cornes said: "Improvements in the last few weeks are just part of our commitment to bring forward the all important phase two of this town centre. Clearing the land ready for progress is a small step to achieveing our ambition to provide a quality shopping experience for the people of Urmston."
Leon Guyett, Senior Development Executive at Ask said: “We are delighted that the final demolition of the old shopping centre is now complete, preparing the site for the development of phase two of Eden Square. We also look forward to pursuing the opportunities it will create for future development, with phase one retailers having established Eden Square as an important hub for the local community. ”
