This 20-acre scheme will extend the heart of Manchester city – and become a new international gateway to the city centre.
First Street is one of the most signifcant schemes in Manchester City Centre and the first phase is the redevelopment of the former BT building now called Number One First Street. The 180,000 sq ft Grade A offices completed in March 2009 and the building has just been awarded the BREEAM Post Construction certificate of "Excellent". Number One First Street is the first office building in the North West to achieve this level of accrediation and only the 7th in the country. Manchester City Council has recently announced that their 1,400 staff will relocate to Number One in order for the town hall extension works to take place. The City Council will take 140,000 sq ft, starting thier fit out last October ready for occupation from April 2010. An amazing public focal point will be created by Europe's largest living green walls and extensive public realm works will bring to Manchester a new 18 metre wide, 300 metre long tree-lined boulevardensuring that First Street will become the best address for employees, residents and visitors alike. Exceptional transport links together with a rich mix of bars, restaurants and retail outlets will combine to create a distinctive sense of place and vibrancy on weekends, weekdays and evenings. A PDF of the Number One First Street brochure can be downloaded here and the First Street Manchester website can be found at www.colourmylife.com
