Deansgate Locks was generally lying redundant and unused when the former railway viaduct was acquired in February 1999 from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive and Manchester City Council after two years of planning and vendor negotiations.
The motivation behind the development of this Grade II listed structure was to regenerate the arches and surrounding area into a new destination venue for leisure and entertaining. Comprising of 12 brick inter-connecting arches, each arch provides stunning internal space with glass frontages, opening on to two boulevard boardwalks overhanging the Rochdale Canal.
This award winning canalside leisure mall is regeneration in its purest form, and is firmly established as Manchester’s premier leisure destination.
