Sustainability

It is to state the obvious that this topic represents the single biggest challenge facing our communities in the 21st Century. Less obvious however is how we, in the development industry, should respond to that challenge bearing in mind the scale and complexity of the issue. To inform an appropriate response, one that is measured, considered and capable of being benchmarked, some 18 months ago the Ask Sustainability Forum was established to evolve a clear and decisive policy for the company.

That Forum, facilitated by Professor David Auckland, Managing Director of One Central Park and incorporating global experts in sustainability and real estate from Norman Disney & Young and New York based Jones Lang LaSalle, has now completed its work and produced the attached policy document. Informed by best practice from around the world, Creating Sustainable Places sets out our commitment to implementing sustainable business practices that optimise the opportunities and minimise the risk for the planet, the communities that we work in and the people that our business interacts with both internally and externally.

We have now seconded an expert from Norman Disney & Young into the company to ensure that this policy becomes deeply embedded into the culture of the business and into all of the projects in the portfolio, and we have established a clear set of ambitious Key Performance Indicators to ensure that we deliver.
